This section of the site covers questions that are often asked by participants that are planning to, or already attend our events. Before contacting us directly please check this page as there may already be an answer to your question.
IS THERE AN AGE RESTRICTION FOR ATENDEES?
All minors (14 and under) must be supervised at all times by an accompanying adult (a friend guardian or relative that is 18+), who must also be either playing or crewing the event. Please be aware that if you fail to supervisor a minor at all times, the staff reserve the right to ask you (and the minor) to leave the event site. In this instance, a full or partial refund will not be issued. It should be noted that Neothera Saga UK LARP is not aimed at a young audience, and as such we will not alter or censor plot, language, props/costume or potentially disturbing in-character (IC) occurrences (such as gore, bad language, violence and adult subject matter etc.) with a view that minors will be attending a game.
I AM PREGNANT, CAN I STILL ATTEND ONE OF YOUR GAMES?
Sadly not. If you are pregnant we strongly advise not attending a Neothera Saga UK LARP event as a player or crew member. It would be highly irresponsible for any LARP system that includes a combat element for anyone pregnant to step foot in an IC (in-character) area. This is because accidents could happen, even if you are issued a non-combat NPC role, it is not worth taking the risk that you could be hit with a stray projectile or if someone bumps into you by accident in the heat of the moment.
DO YOU ALLOW SPECTATORS AT YOUR EVENTS?
No. We do not allow spectators unless agreed beforehand by the system manager or if they are official photographers, filmmakers or involved in work behind the scenes at an event.
IS THERE A RECRUIT A FRIEND BONUS?
Yes. If you recruit a friend you can get 3 Hero Points after you and your friend attend their first event as a player or crew member. If you both attend a second event together, you each gain another 3 Hero Points.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO AN EVENT?
We are often asked this question so we have put together a guide that explains everything you need to know about what to bring and prepare for an event, as well as logistics, event timings and site information. Please download the Prepare for Adventure guide for full information. This can be found on the Rules & Lore section of this website.
HOW DO I CREATE A PLAYER CHARACTER
When you have purchased a PLAYER ticket to an upcoming event you will be emailed confirmation of your purchase along with details about the event itself. You will also be asked to reply to the email with further details to allow us to set up your online character sheet. Once you have replied with the relevant information you will receive a link to the character builder which you can access anywhere, anytime providing you have an Internet connection. We strongly recommend reading our Core Rules book to learn the basics of creating a character.
To purchase tickets to our upcoming events please visit the SHOP page.
AM I EXPECTED TO LEARN ALL OF THE RULES BEFORE I ATTEND AN EVENT?
When you are planning on attending one of our events, especially if it is your first time LARPing, we highly recommend downloading and reading our Core Rules book (available in the Rules and Lore section of this website). Whilst we do not expect you to learn the rules inside out, we at least ask that you get an idea of the concept of the system and note some of the basic rules.
If you enjoyed your first event and want to attend future games with us, it is at this point you should begin to ensure important rules (such as instructional calls for effects and damage etc.) and abilities your character has acquired are committed to memory, or at least jotted down in some form of notebook for you to refer to whilst at a game.
In our experience, those who have taken the time to study the game rules have a more enjoyable time with us and it also prevents unnecessary interruptions to gameplay whilst rules are explained privately to individuals who are not clued up.
WHO SHOULD I SPEAK TO IF I HAVE AN ISSUE WITH ANOTHER PARTICIPANT?
Our seasoned staff are always on hand to deal with any issues raised. If something doesn't feel right, or you have an issue with another participant (crew or player) please speak to Tommy or Jake who will address your concern discreetly and professionally.
I THINK SOMEONE MIGHT BE CHEATING AT THE GAME. WHAT DO I DO?
Tommy and Jake are always on hand to deal with any issues raised. If you have an issue regarding cheating (with a crew member or player) please speak to the senior staff who will address your concern.
ARE THERE ANY WEAPON RESTRICTIONS?
Yes. We highly recommend downloading and reading the Neothera Saga Core Rules for restrictions on weapons that are allowed at our events.
I HEARD AN EFFECT CALL, I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT MEANS. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
We are lucky enough to have a friendly player/crew base. If you don't understand a rule, call or another aspect of the game, please don't hesitate to speak to a member of staff or the player/crew member that called the EFFECT. They will be happy to explain it to you.
IS PVP ALLOWED?
Yes. PVP (player vs player) is very much allowed in our games. If you have a genuine, IC (in-character) gripe to settle, and you feel combat is the only way to resolve it, go ahead and attack that player!
WHAT IS MY CHARACTER ALLOWED TO KNOW ABOUT THE GAME-WORLD?
Your character knows what is written in the core rules and Realms of Neothera handbook, as well as what they learn in-game. Sometimes, special races or realms may be given additional information before they start at an event. If this is the case, a staff member will contact you before the event starts with the relevant information for your character.
I NEED TO TAKE A BREAK DURING THE EVENT...WHAT SHOULD I DO?
We understand that Neothera Saga events are physically and mentally demanding. If you are a player or crew member and you need to take some time out, no matter what the reason is, please let Tommy or Jake know ASAP so we can accommodate your needs.
WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CHARACTER DIES DURING A GAME?
If you are attending a game as a player, and your character is unfortunate enough to die, you have two options...
A) Make a back-up character before the event starts. Contact us via email and we'll help you set up an additional character sheet. Bring your back-up character's costume. You can jump back into the game as your new character.
B) Join the crew! Spend the rest of the event crewing. Crew earn 3 Hero Points per day for crewing. These points can then be put towards a new player character you make.
